Specialist Skin Surgery

These are surgical procedures performed under local aneasthetic, they can include the removal of suspicious moles or skin lesions.

The Specialist Skin Surgery clinics are led by Dr G Wilkinson, GP.

Clinics are held every third Thursday of the month, between 9.00am & 12.00pm at Manor House Hadfield.

Referrals are accepted for the following types of skin problems:

  • BCC
  • Actinic Keratosis
  • Bowens Disease

Referrals will NOT be accepted for:

  • Melanoma or SCC
  • BCC’s that are;
    • Over 2cm diameter
    • Recurrent
    • In the “T-zone” (“T-zone” is defined as any part within 1cm of the edges of the eyelids, lips or nose)

These procedures should be referred to hospital in the usual manner.

Referrals are accepted from all primary and secondary health care professionals in Tameside and Glossop. Referrals are also accepted from Dr Tim Kingston, consultant dermatologist.

All referrals are reviewed by Dr Guy Wilkinson and arrangements are made for the patient to be booked into the specialist skin surgery clinic as appropriate dependent on clinical need.

Patients are informed of their appointment by post or telephone call.

The Specialist Skin Surgery service offers a short wait for consultation and surgery. All tissue removed in the Specialist Skin Surgery clinic is sent routinely for histology. Referring health care professionals are listed as copy recipients of the histology report. The report usually takes between 2-3 weeks.
